#MillionsMissing Visibility Action: Newquay, England
#MillionsMissing is a global campaign for ME health equality. Help us make noise on May 12th, 2019 by joining our Visibility Action in Newquay, Cornwall!
We'll be holding a small visibility event on the beach. We'll have shoes/flip flops with stories of people missing from their lives due to ME, posters, leaflets, and will be writing in the sand to get people's attention and then speak to interested people about ME. We will be taking photos at the event to highlight how people all over the UK want change for people with ME and to send to local MPs.
Key info: Fistral Beach, Newquay. 2-4pm (gathering at 1.45)
We'll be Tweeting today so you can take a look at what's happening and keep up to date with our plans at this link: https://twitter.com/mmnewquay
Meet by Fistral Beach Pasty Shack / Fistral Beach Ice Cream Shop (left side of Ann’s Cottage Surf Shop) by the car park at 1.45pm today (look for someone in a red Millions Missing tshirt). Then at 2pm we'll move to the beach. Note: depending on the accessibility needs of attendees we may split the visibility actions into two areas (the main beach being one of them, and the more accessible non-beach flat area at the top as another possibility). Dani will likely be around earlier (1/1.15pm), if you happen to be too.
Meet by Fistral Beach Pasty Shack / Fistral Beach Ice Cream Shop (left side of Ann’s Cottage Surf Shop) by the car park at 1.45pm (look for someone in a red Millions Missing tshirt) and at 2pm we will be on the beach (depending where there's space).
Please bring any shoes/banners you want to lay out and anything to keep you comfortable on the beach (e.g. towel, coat). We'll be making an effort to not leave any plastic or other trash behind.
Warning: the roads to the beach in Newquay can get very busy at peak periods, so you may need to leave early to arrive for the start (but we'll be around until 4pm).
So, so sorry for the location not being fully accessible (accessibility info follows below). I took over the running of this event this past Thursday and had less than a day to find a venue we could use without expenses and permission (and had at least minimal requirements), so I'm really sorry that I couldn't find somewhere better.
There is parking very close to Fistral Beach, but it is likely to be very busy.
Visit Cornwall has info on accessibility here: https://www.visitnewquay.org/visitor-information/accessibility/beach-accessibility
Access : Fair, via a shallow slope & dunes (to the beach itself)
Parking : Within 50 Metres (55 yards)
Dogs : All dogs allowed, all year
Bus : No nearby bus stop
Cafe : Within 50 Metres (55 yards)
There are disabled and other toilets, which are free to use close to the beach.
If you cannot attend or have a relative/friend/loved one who cannot, we can write a tag for a pair of flip flops. Just let us know your name (age if you don't mind), and what you're missing from (please mention holidays/beaches/the sea somewhere as that's our theme). Please get them to me by 12pm today at dani . boobyer @gmail.com (remove the spaces) to ensure I make up a tag (although I'll do my best after that).
Email Dani at dani . boobyer @gmail.com (remove the spaces) if you'd like more info on the event or if there's any requirements/needs you have that you want to discuss for the event.
